Age Groups in the Montessori System

0–3 Years

The Montessori system provides a calm, safe environment that supports sensory exploration and early motor skill development like crawling, walking, and grasping. It also encourages independence through simple tasks like self-feeding and choosing toys. The environment is carefully tailored to the child's size and needs.

3–6 Years

The child begins to show greater curiosity about the world. The Montessori system provides interactive materials that support the development of skills like reading, writing, and counting through play and hands-on activities. It also focuses on building inner order, concentration, and independence, as the child learns to carry out daily life tasks on their own.

6–9 Years

At this stage, the child becomes ready to use their cognitive abilities more deeply. Montessori encourages logical thinking, asking questions, and seeking answers through various projects and explorations.

Learning expands to include broader concepts such as history, geography, and science, while continuing to support independence and the development of social skills.

Learning Through the Senses

Education relies on interacting with tangible materials that stimulate the senses and help reinforce concepts.

Freedom within Limits

Children are given the freedom to choose the activities they desire, but within a framework of order and self-discipline.

Prepared Environment

The classrooms are organized in a structured way, with interactive educational materials suitable for each age group, encouraging self-directed learning and exploration.

Child-Centered Approach

The child is considered the center of the educational process and is viewed as naturally capable of learning and discovering when provided with a suitable environment.

Montessori Method
The Montessori method is a distinctive educational approach developed by the Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori in the early 20th century. It is based on a deep understanding of the child’s nature and their psychological and educational needs across different developmental stages. This method focuses on the holistic development of the child by providing a carefully prepared learning environment that encourages self-directed learning, exploration, and hands-on experience.

In Montessori education, the child is seen as naturally capable of learning when placed in the right environment. Therefore, children are given the freedom to choose activities that match their interests and to work at their own pace, within a framework of guidance and respect.

The Role of the Specialized Instructor

The specialized Montessori instructor plays a central role in the successful implementation of the method. Her role goes beyond teaching—she creates a stimulating learning environment, guides staff, and ensures adherence to global educational standards. With her deep expertise, she guarantees that each child receives an individualized learning experience suited to their needs and abilities.

She also promotes the Montessori philosophy within the classroom by planning ahead, observing carefully, and applying thoughtful pedagogical interventions, striking a balance between the child’s freedom and effective guidance. The instructor is the backbone of any successful Montessori environment.
